Today was my second week on the coffee van and I'm having a great time meeting some of Greg's lovely customers. Matt is doing a wonderful job and really isn't needing too much training just a little milk texturing advice. It was a very chilly day at 6.30am in the dark at the hospital carpark so we really appreciated the sun later on in the day.
I have to share this funny story with you - it still makes me laugh as I think about typing the tale - hope you also enjoy and get a giggle.
As part of my practice I always ask each customer how they enjoyed their meal and this one particular comment left me gob-smacked. The lady with a foreign accent smiled and looked up from her empty clean plate and said "I haven't had crap like that in a very long time".
Well I was horrified we always receive the highest praise for our food so I was suffering from shock - as I gathered my composure trying to think of a response - my brain engaged as I realized what she had for lunch. What she was actually saying was " I haven't had a CREPE like that in a very long time".
It is with mixed feelings as we prepare our beautiful 45 acre farm for sale.
We have had many wonderful years watching our children grow up on this farm and the great experience as we breed South African Boer Goats.
During this time my parents, who we built a house for on the farm, have since passed away and I am still working through the sad process of removing their belongings.
Our son has moved to Melbourne to attend Uni and our daughter will be heading off somewhere to Uni next year.
I will truly miss the magnificent peaceful view over the wineries through the valley as the family of Wedgetail Eagles from the mountain soar our skies but it is time for us to downsize, as our chicks have all but left the nest. I'll upload some photos soon so you can drool over the magnificent view.
Good News the equipment is ordered and on its way for some minor renovations over the Easter long weekend. A lot of my staff want the weekend off for personal reasons and the long weekend gives me time to make some improvements. This small change will assist our busy customers who want to pop in for a quick something to take with them. Stay tuned for the launch of this new product.....
The youngest of our brood is our daughter Bronte who is the smiling sunshine that works at the café during school holidays. This is her final year and she is fully absorbed in studying as she hopes to gain entry into Sydney Uni to become a Physiotherapist, this means an ATAR score of 90+.
I tell you if hard work get you there her ATAR should be 200. Bronte starts her day at 6.00am studying, drives off to school, comes home and studies till dinner, then continues more study - her only down time is Church Youth Group on Friday night, work at Borrodell Wineries Sisters Rock Restaurant & Sunday afternoon school play rehearsals. Yes she is one busy young lady. Bronte is the second leading lady in The Mikado playing in June at the Orange Theatre - I promise to tell more as we get closer & provide photos after the event.
Many of our regular customers fondly ask how my son Lincoln (who worked as the Barista during his "Gap Year") is settling back in to Swinburne Uni in Melbourne. Good News is his new room mates are terrific guys with no bad habits he has mentioned yet :)
The bad news is he quickly run out of money and is keenly looking for work - if anyone has links in Melbourne around Richmond who need a very hardworking, honest young lad that is an awesome Barista - studying Graphic Design & Multi-Media he is ready willing and able.
This term he is working on more 3D animation which he is truly loving.
You won't see me at the Café this Tuesday and for many more Tuesday's to come as that is my designated day to help a very sick man named Greg. A number of weeks back I was told that Greg who owns the "Brought 2 Order" Coffee Van was very, very sick and unable to keep his coffee van business going. I had met Greg when his van came to the office where I worked prior to me buying my cafe - now known as Scrumptious. Knowing Greg I wanted to help and came up with an idea - how about I ask around and get some fellow Baristas in Orange to volunteer their time to work a day running Gregs coffee van so we can keep his business going while he recovers. Guess what the I had an instant YES from Ben Brown, Ben Castellaro and Will Clarke. I meet with Greg and we have put the plan into action. My designated volunteer day is Tuesday so off I start this week hoping I can do Greg and his coffee van business proud (I'm very nervous). I will let you know how this go .... :)
